Fantastic Battles

Fantastic Battles Nic works his magic again to improve what was already good. In the past the author published the wargame called "Irregular Wars: Conflict at the end's world" focused on the skirmishes between the conquerors and the natives in the exploration period of the XIV and XVII centuries; and it was a good regulation, quick and easy to understand and play. Well now, Mr. Wright has managed to streamline the game and add something that makes it enviable, and that is that now you can create your own units, adding special rules and modifying the profiles. In this way, the regulation becomes a timeless system, which will allow you to use the regulation in any period between the dawn of Humanity, until the first steps of the First World War. With a system of bases that adapts to the armies you already have, since only the front of the base matters, you can play with any army. It uses D6, and it can be played on a table around 90x90cm. You will also find plenty of troop examples so you ...

Adventures with Captain Nemo

Adventures with Captain Nemo "Adventures with Captain Nemo" is a "skirmish game" by Ed Teixeira, i.e. half-way between a wargame and a gamebook where you can manage your small team against foes, as set by the scenario and the random encounters. There are 15 pages of rules which use the "one Stat" system, i.e. Rep(utation) which can increase or decrease following the outcome of your actions. The adventures take place in one of THW's settings, Lemuria, a lost world located in the Indian Ocean. I was looking forward to explore this island with its teaming jungles and its monsters but all of this ends up as a major disappointment. There is nearly no description of Lemuria and your potential foes are nothing else than a one-stat like each other. The 17 pages of campaign is a railroad of nine missions given to you by Captain Nemo; therefore there is no replayability but, anyway, except perhaps for the two naval battles, the encounters are mere dice-throwing versus Rep 3, 4 or 5 so that...

Four Against the Great Old Ones

Four Against the Great Old Ones A lot of excellent content and potential here, but there are production issues and the game can easily beome a die-rolling exercise. * Can't search the formatted version (you get a plain text version without art as well) * No bookmarks or hyperlinks for either version (and this has so much content to refer to you really need it). And there's some special bullet character that isn't showing up properly. * The characters and encounters are very interesting - but they all just end up as a die rolling combat exercise, so this can easily get boring unless you are going to flesh out the narrative extensively and houserule the reactions of the NPCs - or run this with a GM (which would work extremely well). ...

Western Kingdom - 3D Battlefield Bundle

Western Kingdom - 3D Battlefield Bundle Honestly, you'll get better results searching through Thingiverse for files that you can just print at the same scale as these files. Having done that myself, I can tell you that there are free models that look better and print better than these. The "pre-supported" files have some significant problem areas, and when I tried to support them myself I had a rough time trying to orient the models so that I could generate decent supports. This was a big deal for me, because I bought this bundle so I could make a project for a history class that I'm in, and I wasted a lot of time trying to get these models to work. The supports on the models were just placed lazily. Having bought STLs on other sites, I know what it looks like when a designer takes time to carefully pre-support something. Also, the details on the models are sparse - as you might expect for a model that is meant to be printed really small - but these models are VERY sparse. With a resin printer "smal...

Shipwreck These rules are just great - long in the tooth now, but well suited to cold war period. Harpoon like outcomes in a fraction of the time and charts. The gold standard for modern naval games.

Knights in the Sky Generally good with omeoddflaw, it gives advanced rules, but is unclear on basic rule which should have preeeded them, it doesn't seem to have any allowance for altitude- bizarre an aircraft game, but this is the basis of a good gme if they test it out with people can't tke things for grantedso all the rues are included
