Ill Met in the City
by Patrick
Publisher: Simon Carryer Games
Date Added: 04/16/2024 09:51:52
pixel_trans.gif Ill Met in the City The buildings in this collection are carefully fleshed-out adventuring locations that come with a set of NPCs. Most of them are small in scope so they can be played as an urban crime one-shot or be fit into a larger campaign. The drawings and the accompanying text are easy to interpret and ripe with fun details. All of the locations fit on a single page with intuitive layouts and brief text so this can be run without intensive preparation. I've had the pleasure of playing a scenario centered around the "Heist on the Hoist" building, which is a rather high-security location within the collection and required a lot of planning from the player side. After the sessions I felt a strong urge to go back and play some of the smaller-scale locations, it's a great change of pace to the dungeoneering I'm used to! I can recommend "Ill met in the City" to any DM looking to infuse their urban settings with additional flavor and interesting adventuring opportunities for their players. I will certai...

Adventures in Rokugan
by Tracy
Publisher: EDGE Studio
Date Added: 04/16/2024 09:05:43
pixel_trans.gif Adventures in Rokugan I think that there is a lot to work with in this book and that a lot of the gripes that many folks seem to have with it are with a.) the direction of D&D 5e itself and b.) the fact that it's "not my L5R." It's NOT L5R. That's the point. If you're familiar with D&D 5e and you want a system you know with Rokugan flavor, Adventures in Rokugan is perfectly serviceable. If you want L5R, then... play that. This isn't just a Rokugan setting for D&D, though. The classes and other player options are unique to this book, and they do a good job of helping you root your character into the world of Rokugan. Some mechanics are a little clunky and take some getting used to, but for the most part, they succeed in capturing the spirit of the setting while allowing players to build from what they already know. There's also nothing stopping you from using other D&D 5e content if you want to, say, crank the magic up higher by allowing players to play sorcerers or have their Courtier take ...

Cirque Du Soulless

pixel_trans.gif Cirque Du Soulless I feel like this would be great as a stand alone one shot or as a drop in game for a larger adventure. There is plenty at the carnival to keep a player occupied while investigating. The NPCs are a lot of fun as well, and the combats are challenging enough to keep people engaged.

pixel_trans.gif Retro Sci-Fi Rules Very happy with my purchase. The Task System and Character Gen suits my tastes now better than classic. Animal generation is great too. Still baffled as to why ability checks are so convoluted, can't I just roll <= my ability score can call it a day?

Brimstone RPG

pixel_trans.gif Brimstone RPG Brimstone has a solid core system and tons of fun ideas! It's been a long time since I've had this much fun reading through an RPG. There are a handful of places that could use an editing pass for clarity or typos, but overall, this is a very solid product! LLA005: The Stealer of Children
by Spyridon
Publisher: Small Niche Games
Date Added: 04/15/2024 18:03:41
pixel_trans.gif LLA005: The Stealer of Children My group and I really enjoyed this. It is a very coherent adventure, things made sense and I appreciated not having to make corrections to the story! There was enough information about the village and its inhabitants to make it feel like a real place. Also, as a history enthusiast, I loved how the cherry elements actually have parallels in the medieval real world, like cherry orchards, cherry fairs and cherry desserts. The Tanglewood is also really well done and provides ideas that a GM can use in a faerie forest in the future too. My only word of caution for the GM is that - Spoiler - since the Grombel can be harmed by fire, it seems likely (at least this is what my players did) that the PCs will somehow just overpower it using fire. ...

X1 The Isle of Dread (Basic)
by Scott B.
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
Date Added: 04/15/2024 18:01:43
pixel_trans.gif X1 The Isle of Dread (Basic) This is a high quality reprint. Text is very crisp and the images are excellent reproduction with no lose of detail. My only recommendation would be if the map which was printed on the inside of the cover in the original was also printed the same way on this booklet versus in the interior. If these printers can figure out a way to recreate the feeling of the original by printing these maps on the inside covers, and keeping the covers seperate from the rest of the booklet, I would probably be willing to pay double....

pixel_trans.gif U2 Danger at Dunwater (1e) This is a high quality reprint. Text is very crisp and the images are excellant. Maybe one of the best reprints I've puchased. The only recommendation I'd have to make it better is the same as most other buyers...if the blue ink map could just be printed on the inside cover like the originals! If these printers can figure out a way to recreate the feeling of the original by printing these maps on the inside covers, and keeping the covers seperate from the rest of the booklet, I would be willing to pay double....

I2 Tomb of the Lizard King (1e)
by Scott B.
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
Date Added: 04/15/2024 17:53:32
pixel_trans.gif I2 Tomb of the Lizard King (1e) This is a high quality reprint. Text is very crisp and the images, though some appear slightly more muted then the originals, are still clean and accurate. The map which was printed on the inside of the cover in the original is instead printed within the document. While I do wish it was printed on the inside cover, I will say they did an absolute superb job with the reproduction. In fact I'd argue it's even better the original. Increadibly sharp detail using dark blue ink. If these printers can figure out a way to recreate the feeling of the original by printing these maps on the inside covers, and keeping the covers seperate from the rest of the booklet, I would probably be willing to pay double....

N1 Against the Cult of the Reptile God (1e)
by Scott B.
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast

pixel_trans.gif N1 Against the Cult of the Reptile God (1e) Excellent reprint of the origininal. The text is crisp and clean, very easy to read. The artwork in the interior is good, though possibly more "gray out" then the original. I've seen this in multiple reprints and I'm not sure why the reprints feel more washed out. Still they are easy to see what the text is describing. The inside cover includes the blue ink map same as the original (I love when they do this). It is crystal clear in detail and easily read from a distance. PLEASE USE THE INSIDE COVER TO PRINT THE MAPS LIKE THE ORIGINALS!! NOTE: I managed to actually peel the cover off the rest of the booklet (slowly and carefully) so that I now have a removable cover just like the original. I was only willing to do this since I knew if a screwed it up I could easily order another one. I did add a strip of white book binding tape along the cover crease as well as over the rest of the booklet spine. The color of the tape matches teh color of the paper so you...

C2 The Ghost Tower of Inverness (1e)
by Scott B.
Publisher: Wizards of the Coast
Date Added: 04/15/2024 17:28:48
pixel_trans.gif C2 The Ghost Tower of Inverness (1e) Overall this reprint is exquisite. The text is perfectly clear, the images crisp. The only way it could be made better was if the maps on the inside cover of the original would also have been printed on the inside of this cover, versus left blank. These maps are 100% usable, however they are printed in blank ink versus the blue ink of the original.
